We consider the reading, preaching, and teaching of scripture to be important in our worship. Given its vital connection with the gospel, God’s glory, and our spiritual health, we promote preaching that seeks to explain the meaning of a biblical text in its context, i.e., expository preaching. But God’s Word is meant to be lived, not simply studied or discussed (Psalm 119:4; John 13:17; James 1:22, 25, etc.), so sound preaching should not be a mere theological lecture but should include vital gospel application to help us live for Christ in the current culture and communities we find ourselves.
